CA Judge Gives His Point of View on the Tanana Valley State Fair

Although I'm not a District 1 member, I can't help but report enthusiastic news from my travels within the Northwest! Randy (Shumaker) and I are finishing a week of judging the Tanana Valley State Fair in Fairbanks, Alaska. Shaun Brown and her crew are dedicated ARBA members and volunteer coordinators of this eight day Alaska extravaganza.

I'm amazed each time we judge in Alaska at the magnitude of interest and commitment shown by the local breeders. Six desolate hours north of Anchorage, the normally "frozen Fairbanks" boasts 4-H rabbit and cavy shows, youth and open showmanship, rabbit and cavy judging competitions, and even a triple all breed rabbit and cavy show during the fair's 8 day duration. It's been a fantastic week. and we've been treated to many local "must-sees and eats". The Alaskans do There is so much to promote our hobby in this seemingly geographically separated land. Very cool!

Following the judging competitions, we watched 4-H presentations - including a young lady who cooked cavy before a live audience! Skeptical fairgoers, including myself, were surprised at the tasty toothpick sampling from her unique project.

I am impressed by these energetic Alaskans. They're such great members! (Below are a couple photos of the 4-H events.)
